MEDIA ADVISORY - National Guard Education Program to host media event at Meriwether Lewis Elementary
 
On November 9, 2005 from 1:45 to 3 p.m. the Oregon National Guard Education Program will be on site at the Meriwether Lewis Elementary School, 4401 SE Evergreen St., Portland, Ore.
 
On hand will be:
 
Staff Sgt. Scott Mandrell who has portrayed Meriwether Lewis from the initial event in Monticello in January 2003 along the entire trail keeping true to the journal.
 
1st Lt. Joseph Bradford portraying York, Clark's slave on the expedition with the St. Charles Corps of Discovery all last summer and is with them as they go down the Columbia River.
 
Staff Sgt. Greg Olson will be portraying a riverman on the expedition. He is a social studies teacher and has worked in the Lewis and Clark program with the Oregon National Guard for more than 18 months.
 
The agenda for the program will be:
 
 1:45 - 2 p.m. Kids will be in the computer lab exploring the CD-ROM for photo opportunities. Media should sign in at the front desk.
 
2 - 2:05 p.m. Principal Tim Lauer will make welcoming remarks.
 
2:20 - 2:15 Judy Poppler, QWEST President for Oregon will talk about their support of the signature event, National Council and CD-ROM programming.
 
2:15 - 2:20 Sarah Jones, teacher will talk about her and other teachers use of the CD Rom
 
2:20 - 2:50 Clark reenactor will engage the children with storytelling and Major Alisha Hamel and the re-enactors will demonstrate to the children how members of the expedition used a sextant and other navigational tools.
 
2:50 - 3:00 p.m. Robert Archibald, Juddy Peppler and the re-enactors will be available for photos or interviews.
