Oregon soldiers close out Iraq tour of duty
The Oregon National Guard will welcome home nearly a dozen soldiers from their one year tour of duty in Iraq during a ceremony Feb. 24 at 3 p.m. in Pendleton.
The demobilization ceremony takes place at the Army Aviation Support Facility #2, and the ceremony brings to a close the deployment for the fourteen soldiers of Detachment 2, L Company, 151st Aviation Intermediate Maintenance Battalion.
The soldiers deployed early in 2004 to Logistics Support Area Anaconda in Balad, Iraq. While deployed to the LSA approximately 30 miles north of Baghdad, the soldiers helped maintain more than 120 helicopters, including the CH-47 Chinook, UH-60 Blackhawk, OH-58 Kiowa, and the AH-64 Apache which were used by the Army in the challenging climate and combat environment in Iraq.
Eleven soldiers returned to Pendleton on Feb 19. to the cheers of family and friends.. Another three soldiers will remain on active duty on medical hold until these issues are resolved.
The ceremony is open to the media.
