Archbishop Vlazny to receive award from National Guard Bureau for providing support to wounded
 
Portland, Ore. - A presentation ceremony is scheduled for Friday, March 4, 2005 at 9:30 a.m. at the Portland Archdiocese located at 2838 East Burnside St. in Portland, Ore. Media is invited to attend this presentation.
 
Monsignor Charbonneay, the Chaplain of the National Guard Bureau and Brigadier General Ray Byrne, Jr., acting Adjutant General of the Oregon National Guard will present a special award to Vlazny for outstanding support to the soldiers arriving at Landstuhl Regional Medical Center (LRMC) in Germany. Vlazny sent priests to minister to the soldiers arriving from Iraq. They provided comfort and counseling to these soldiers for more than a year.
 
Oregon soldiers from the 2nd Battalion, 162 Infantry as well as more recently the 3rd Battalion, 116th Cavalry have been treated at the LRMC prior to being returned to duty or being sent stateside for continued treatment of their injuries.
