Task Force Oregon (Pontchartrain) to return 160 soldiers to Oregon on Friday, Sep. 23, 2005
Approximately 160 soldiers who have been serving in support of Hurricane Katrina relief operations will return on Friday. They will arrive on Charter aircraft and taxi to the Pamcorp terminal.
Scheduled to be on this flight will be approximately 103 soldiers from the 2nd Battalion, 162 Infantry, 4-14 from the 2nd Battalion 218th Field Artillery, 27 from the 142nd Security Forces, Oregon Air National Guard, 24 from E Company, 82nd Cavalry, 1 from the 115 MPAD and one embedded reporter.
The soldiers remaining in Louisiana will be moving to Alexandria today with the exception of C Company, 1st Battalion, 186th Infantry which will be the Quick Reaction Force for the Louisiana Army National Guard and be positioned in Baton Rouge, the Brigade TAC which will relocate to Layfayette.
It is anticipated that TF Oregon will stage out of Alexandria and then be able to provide support operations in the southwest border area between Louisiana and Texas. We currently have 1,412 soldiers and airmen on the ground in Louisiana. With the return tomorrow of the 160-170 troops, our remaining forces on the ground will drop to approximately 1,250. These soldiers will be available for missions in support of any additional damage that may arise due to Hurricane Rita.
