Oregon Army National Guard units in Woodburn, Lebanon, Clackamas and Salem to reorganize
Several Oregon army National Guard units will reorganize this weekend as part of the US Army Transformation initiative.
Oregon's E Troop, 82nd Cavalry in Woodburn will inactivate, and A Troop, 82nd Cavalry will activate at a ceremony in the Woodburn Armory Jan. 7 at 9 a.m. In addition, F Troop, 82nd Cavalry in Lebanon will inactivate, and B Troop, 82nd Cavalry will activate in a ceremony at the Lebanon Armory Jan. 7, at 1 p.m. The unit mission and manning requirements will remain the same.
The 206th Quartermaster Battalion from Salem and the 741st Corps Support Battalion from Camp Withycombe in Clackamas will inactivate, and the 821st Troop Command Battalion will activate in a ceremony Jan. 7 at the Salem Auditorium on 17th Street at 10 a.m. Soldiers in the 206th QBN will become part of the new 821st Trp. Cmd. Bn., and Soldiers in the 741st CSB will become part of the 3670th Maintenance Company at Camp Withycombe.
Transformation is a Department of Defense program that has the military services reorganizing to meet future challenges. In general the US Army is reorganizing forces to deploy at the Brigade level instead of at the Division level. These changes allow the US Army to deploy more easily and with greater flexibility.
