GuardiNational Guard Celebrates Grand Opening of Hillsboro Career Center and the National Guard's 370th Birthday
When: Wednesday, December 13, 2006
Where: Hillsboro Army National Guard Career Center
1991 NE Cornell, Suite 160, Hillsboro, OR (next to Burger King)
The Oregon Army National Guard is celebrating the Grand Opening of its newest Career Center in Hillsboro. This center will serve as an information point in the Hillsboro area for information relating to becoming a member of the Army National Guard. The Army National Guard is currently offering outstanding benefits for its members, including up to a $20,000 bonus and the Montgomery GI Bill and Tuition Assistance to help members complete their college degree. In addition, the National Guard provides a means for members to serve their community, state and nation.
The National Guard will also be celebrating its 370th birthday at the Hillsboro Career Center. The Army National Guard traces its roots to a time that predates our Declaration of Independence, a time that began well before our Constitution declared us an independent nation. In 1636, in the Massachusetts Bay Colony, groups of farmers, merchants and fishermen took up arms to defend their homesteads from Native Americans intent on driving them back to England. These first organized militias carved forts from the forest, and defended the colonies from the Dutch and the French.
In addition, on December 13, the Hillsboro Career Center will serve as a collection point for Toys for Military Tots, a charitable toy drive to assist needy military families during the Holiday Season. Toys for Military Tots accepts new, unwrapped toys.
Members of the National Guard will be available to answer questions.
