Ribbon Cutting Set for Springfield Field Maintenance Shop, Lane County Armed Forces Reserve Center

The formal ribbon cutting ceremony for the Field Maintenance Shop of the Lane County Armed Forces Reserve Center has been set for Tuesday, March 21, 2006 at 10 a.m. The facility is located at 3010 Pierce Parkway in Springfield, Oregon. Media is welcome to attend.

Congressman Peter Defazio who was integral in obtaining the necessary appropriations for this facility will be the keynote speaker at this event. He will be joined by a representative of Governor Kulongoski, Brigadier General Raymond Byrne, Jr., Assistant Adjutant General (Army), and Springfield Mayor Sid Leiken.

This facility will replace and expand existing overcrowded and substandard facilities located throughout the State of Oregon. This project is the first phase of a two phase project. Phase 1 included the construction of a 17,473 sq. ft. maintenance facility, security measures, and site development. Both phases will seek to achieve LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Gold Certification by the U.S. Green Building Council.

Phase 1 was completed in January 2006, Phase 2 is now underway. Phase 2 will consist of a 169,273 sq. ft. facility, housing units from the Oregon Army National Guard, US Navy Reserve, US Marine Corps Reserve, US Forestry Service, and the Bureau of Land Management. This phase is anticipated to be completed in October 2008. This unprecedented partnership will save taxpayers approximately $15.5 million dollars and provide a state of the art joint use facility. The project partnered the Oregon Army National Guard with four Federal Agencies and the City of Springfield.

With the efficient use of shared and multipurpose spaces, the capabilities of each agency are greatly enhanced. In the event of an emergency, these agencies will have access to state of the art maintenance, communication and management facilities.

The Design build team constructing the facility is comprised of Wildish Construction and Barrentine, Bates and Lee Architects.
