41st Brigade Combat Team, Oregon Army National Guard soldiers complete training in Camp Shelby, Miss
 
More than 900 soldiers from the 41st Brigade Combat Team of the Oregon Army National Guard will complete their pre-mobilization training this weekend at Camp Shelby, Mississippi. Culminating the training will be a formal Farewell Ceremony on Monday, 22 May, 2006 at 9 a.m. on the Parade Field at Camp Shelby, MS near Hattiesburg. Following the ceremony, the soldiers will be released and given a block leave which will enable them to return home prior to forward movement to Afghanistan in early June. They will be in Afghanistan for a period of one year before returning to Oregon.
 
Governor Kulongoski, U.S. Representative Peter DeFazio and Major General Raymond F. Rees, The Adjutant General of Oregon will be on hand for the ceremony and to wish them all a successful mission.
 
The primary mission of the 41st BCT will be to train the Afghanistan National Army. Follow on missions will include patrols for remnants of Taliban and Al Qaeda and to help rebuild the infrastructure of the country.
 
Brig. Gen. Douglas Pritt of Salem, Ore., will command Combined Joint Task Force Phoenix V which will consist of soldiers from Oregon, Oklahoma, Missouri, Kansas, Minnesota, Puerto Rico, Iowa, South Dakota, Montana, California, Pennsylvania, Vermont, Arizona, Idaho, Texas, Arkansas, Delaware, Ohio, Washington, Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Maine, Massachusetts, Michigan, New York, North Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, West Virginia and Wisconsin.
