Oregon High School Students head for the Lewis and Clark Youth Rendezvous in Bismarck, N. Dakota
The ten winners from Oregon of the essay contest which earned them a trip to the Youth Rendezvous will meet with the team of National Guard soldiers who will escort them on this adventure on Friday, August 11, 2006 at 6:30 p.m. at the Round Table Pizza located at 4141 NE 122nd Ave. in Portland, Ore.
This marks the beginning of their journey. At this meeting students and their parents will have the opportunity to meet The National Guard escorts, ask any last minute questions and go over the plans for their departure on Sunday, August 13, 2006. The group will return on 18 August after spending almost a week students from all 54 states and territories. On site in North Dakota they will be exposed to many hands on activities as well as native American demonstrations, cultural activities and items related to the culmination of the events celebrating the anniversary of the Lewis and Clark Expedition.
The students are Morgan (Mo) Brethower of Yamhill, Ethan Brown of Tigard, Lindsey Christopherson of Albany, Devin Daniel, Eric Starke and Stephanie Tran of Portland, Christopher Jacobs of Troutdale, Alexis Lund of Hillsboro, Michael O'Casey of Warrenton, and Jasmine Wilson of Forest Grove.
Sgt. Anna Nam of the Oregon Army National Guard will be following them on this journey and will be able to provide photographic coverage and stories from this great adventure.
