Oregon Army National Guard mobilizes soldiers and dedicates facility to honor retired general
The Oregon Army National Guard will dedicate Hangar 375 to Brig. Gen. (Ret.) Fred M. Rosenbaum, and deploy 14 soldiers in a ceremony at Portland Air National Guard Base at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 13.

Alpha Company, 641 Aviation Regiment, a C-23 Sherpa unit, is moving from Salem, Ore. to facilities formerly occupied by the Air Force Reserve's 939th Air Refueling Wing at PANG-B. The purpose of the move is to prepare for the Joint Cargo Aircraft, a program in which the Army and Air Force will be replacing their aging fleet of Army C-23 Sherpas and Air Force C-130s with C-27J Spartans.

The honored guest at the ceremony will be Brig. Gen. (Ret.) Fred M. Rosenbaum and his wife, Jane. Gen. Rosenbaum, who grew up in Austria as the Nazi's ascended to power, escaped the Holocaust and made his way to the United States with his family. He had a distinguished military career culminating in his tenure as the Assistant to the Adjutant General – Air for the Oregon National Guard.

There will also be a deployment ceremony for 14 soldiers heading to Logistical Support Area Anaconda, Iraq. They will join about 30 National Guard soldiers from Oklahoma, South Dakota and Washington, and will spend six-months flying C-23 Sherpas, transporting personnel and equipment throughout Iraq.

The unit previously mobilized from December 2004 to March 2006 in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom as Alpha Company, 249 Aviation. Although not all of the 14 Oregon soldiers previously deployed with this unit, many of them have deployed with other aviation units in the Oregon Army National Guard.

In attendance at the ceremony will be Governor Theodore R. Kulongoski; Maj. Gen. Raymond F. Rees, Adjutant General, Oregon National Guard; Brig. Gen. Daniel O'Hollaren, Commander of the Oregon Air National Guard; Brig. Gen. Charles Yriarte, 82 Brigade Commander, Oregon Army National Guard; and Brig. Gen. Garry Dean, Assistant to the Adjutant General – Air.

The public and media are welcome to attend. Please arrive early to pass through identification checks at the Contractor Gate on Cornfoot Road, 6801 NE Cornfoot Road Portland, Ore.
