224 Engineer Company, Oregon Army National Guard based in Albany and Newport to return to Oregon
 
After serving in Iraq for the past year, the men and women of the 224 Engineer Company arrived at Ft. Hood, Texas on June 3, to begin their deprocessing from the Army. They are tentatively scheduled to return to Oregon on June 8, 2008. A formal demobilization ceremony has been scheduled for June 11, 2008 at 2 p.m. at the Arena at the Linn County Fairgrounds/Expo Center, 3700 Knox Butte Road, Albany, Ore.

This ceremony will mark the end of the second deployment for this unit which prior to the Army's reorganization was Bravo Company, 52 Engineers which was one of the first units from Oregon to deploy to Iraq in 2003.

Governor Ted Kulongoski, Major General Raymond F. Rees, The Adjutant General and Brigadier General Charles L. Yriarte, Commander, 82 Brigade will take part in the ceremony. Family, friends and supporters are welcome to attend the ceremony.

Everyone is invited to be participate and wish them well on their arrival back to Oregon. Additional details on their return to Oregon will be provided when the final arrangements are complete.


The mission of the 224 Engineer Company was to clear roads and provide other infrastructure support. This unit is primarily a horizontal construction unit with the specialty of rebuilding roadways and berms. In addition to their primary mission they also aided in the construction of temporary outposts for Coalition Forces and the Iraqi Army.


Demobilizing from the rotation into Iraq from the 224 Engineer Company based in Albany and Newport, Ore. will be soldiers from the following home towns:
