|Aeromedical unit from the Oregon Army National Guard mobilizes today
Soldiers from C Company 7/158 Aviation Unit of the Oregon Army National Guard will attend their official mobilization ceremony today, January 29, 2009 at 2 p.m. at the Army Aviation Support Facility #1, located at 1921 Turner road SE, Salem. This mobilization of C/7-158 Aviation also includes two Detachments assigned to them, 1/3/7-158 Aviation and 1/3/7-158 Aviation which brings the number of soldiers to approximately 120 men and women from the Oregon Army National Guard.
Soldiers in this unit have collectively completed 68 National Guard deployments and 30 Regular Army deployments prior to this mobilization. Twelve soldiers deployed in 2000 to Bosnia, 17 deployed with the 1042 Medical Company in 2002 for Operation Enduring Freedom, four deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2002, 18 deployed in 2005 in support of Operation Enduring Freedom, eleven soldiers had prior deployments as members of non aviation Army Guard units and 21 soldiers had one to three deployments as members of the Regular Army.
These soldiers will depart from the Army Aviation Support Facility with their UH-60 Blackhawk helicopters on Saturday, January 31, 2009. Take off is scheduled to begin at 8 a.m. with the final take off at 9 a.m (weather permitting.) Family, friends and members of the media are welcome to attend as these pilots and flight crews depart for Ft. Sill, Oklahoma where they will train for approximately two months prior to their deployment to Iraq.
