Update: 1st Battalion, 168 Aviation detachments receive mobilization orders to Afghanistan
The Oregon Military Department received notification of the mobilization of subordinate units within the 1st Battalion, 168 Aviation headquartered with detachments in both Oregon and Washington states. Seventy two soldiers in B, D and E companies within the battalion are scheduled to deploy in spring of 2010 to Afghanistan.

B Company includes pilots and crew chiefs for the CH-47 Chinook helicopter, D Company is comprised of mechanics and maintenance support personnel, while E Company is the fuel support team. They will report to Ft. Hood, Texas for pre-mobilization training next spring.

1st Lt. Craig Talarico, Executive Officer of B Company said, "the Chinook is a versatile aircraft and will continue to be of great use in Afghanistan. We anticipate that we will be very busy". Their final duty station is unknown at this time.

There are approximately 3,300 soldiers and airmen from the Oregon National Guard deployed around the world in support of federal missions leaving approximately 5,200 guard members along with a variety of equipment to support domestic needs.
