U.S. Army Sgt. Elijah John-Miles Rao to be honored at memorial
A U.S. Army Sergeant, from Lake Oswego, Ore., who was killed in Afghanistan will be honored during a memorial service on Tuesday, Dec. 15.

Sgt. Elijah John-Miles Rao of the 2nd Battalion, 77th Field Artillery Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division, based in Fort Carson, Colorado, was killed by an improvised explosive device on Dec. 5, 2009 while serving in Afghanistan. He was 26 years old.

The Memorial service will take place at Lincoln Memorial Park and Funeral Home, 11801 S.E. Mt. Scott Blvd at 1:00 p.m. Internment will follow at Willamette National Cemetery.

The Media is welcome to attend the services.

Rao is survived by his wife Leah; daughter, Eliana Rao; mother, Sharon, and stepfather, Don Hauerken; father, Franklin Rao, sister and brother-in-law, Cicily and Jeremiah Ulrich; brother, Gabriel Rao; and grandmothers, F. Carole Barr and Carroll Rao.
