Update: Missing hiker found - Oregon Army NG Helicopter Assists in Search

SALEM, Ore --An Oregon Army National Guard helicopter called to support the Multnomah County Sheriff's Office in a search effort for a missing hiker at Yeon State Park has been sent home after ground search crews found the 60-year old man.

The OH-58 launched from the Salem Flight Facility at approximately 10 a.m. Thursday morning to assist in the search for a 60 year old accomplished hiker who left for a hike Wednesday afternoon and never returned. His family reported him missing later that evening when he didn't return as expected.

According to ground search crews the hiker made contact with authorities via cell phone. Searchers were able to locate him after that phone call.

The Multnomah County Sheriff's Department is the lead agency who coordinated all search efforts.
