Oregon National Guard Soldier takes top honors at NCO of the Year competition in Alaska
 
SALEM, Ore.--Oregon Army National Guard Sgt. Robert Krause was named Non-Commissioned Officer of the year at the regional NCO of the Year competition held June 11-14 at Fort Greely and Fort Richardson, Alaska.

Krause, from Milwaukie, Ore., a member of the Oregon Army National Guard's Charlie Co., 2 Battalion, 162 Infantry Regiment, competed in events such as shooting drills, simulated casualty evacuation lane, obstacle course, a ruck-sack march, and a two-mile physical fitness run.

The annual event pits the best Soldiers from regions throughout the country against each other. Top winners of each regional event compete for the overall national title of NCO of the Year. Krause will move on to the national competition scheduled at Fort Benning, Ga., July 27-Aug. 2.

Krause, a team leader with Charlie Co., 2 Battalion, 162 Infantry Regiment, is from Milwaukie, Ore. He finished the run in 11 minutes and 46 seconds.
