FROM THE ORIGINAL PRESS RELEASE:
Eight Citizen-Soldiers will join with the 1st Battalion, 140th Aviation for a 400-day deployment to Balad Air Base, Iraq in support of Operation New Dawn. The group will spend six days at Fort Benning, Ga., training and preparing for their mission.

Four pilots, three crewmembers, and one supply sergeant are scheduled for the deployment. Oregon Army National Guard Capt. Adam McCarthy will serve as the Oregon contingent's commander. The First Sergeant is 1st Sgt. Scott McCoy.

The unit previously deployed from 2007-2008.

Alpha Co., 641 Aviation deployed to Balad Air Base in Iraq in October 2007. The unit quickly assumed their mission to command all Army fixed-wing cargo operations under Multi-National Forces-Iraq. Their support covered Mosul, Kirkuk, Basra and a dozen smaller air bases throughout the country.

The company's support of Other Coalition Forces-Iraq (OCF-I) was instrumental in the timely transportation of sensitive cargo and detained personnel. The company increased existing support by 100 percent and developed mission support into Baghdad. This mission didn't exist before Alpha Co's arrival. At that time, Lt. Gen. Stanley McChrystal, head of Special Operations in Iraq, cited the unit for their dependable and outstanding service to OCF-I.
