Klamath Falls Armed Forces Reserve Center Contract Awarded

MEMORANDUM FOR MEDIA RELEASE

FROM: 173d Fighter Wing

SUBJECT: For Public Release – Klamath Falls Armed Forces Reserve Center

A Design-Build (DB) construction contract was awarded to S&B James Construction of Medford, Oregon for Phase I of the Klamath Falls Armed Forces Reserve Center (KFAFRC). The contract was awarded on September 29, 2010 for $5,598,894.00. The project includes the design and construction of a 14,000 square foot facility for the 173d Security Forces Squadron (SFS). The purpose of the facility will be to adequately house over 80 security force personnel including their mobility gear and equipment. The project also includes parking lots, utilities, site work, and the demolition of multiple outdated, energy inefficient facilities.

The project is registered with the United States Green Building Council (USGBC) and will attain a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) rating of Silver. Throughout all aspects of design and construction, energy efficiency and environmental stewarship will be considered.

Design efforts will begin this winter with ground breaking and construction activity beginning spring 2011. The entire project is scheduled for completion in 18 months. A collective 10 year effort has resulted in final approval and funding for this construction project. The new facility is a part of Kingsley Field's 2009 Master Plan for Installation Development which helped bring the support and funding for the Reserve Center's construction.

The 173d Civil Engineer Squadron at Kingsley Field Air National Guard Base, Klamath Falls, Oregon, and the United States Property and Fiscal Office of Oregon will have the lead in the design, construction, and project management for this facility.

The future plans include the capacity to fully construct Phase II of the joint facility to accommodate the Troop C 1-82 Cavalry, Oregon Army National Guard which consists of over 85 Army personnel including their gear and equipment. This unit just returned home from a 12 month deployment in Iraq and is currently housed in a separate location on the base that is not adequately designed for their mission needs.

The Air National Guard 173d Fighter Wing Security Forces Squadron regularly deploys worldwide in support of the Global War on Terror, and most recently deployed a 32 person team to Kyrgyzstan. Their new facility will be located near the base's recently constructed main entrance that was completed in 2008.
