Press Release

How the government shutdown could affect the Oregon National Guard

Operations and activities in Oregon which are essential to safety and the protection of human life are exempted from shut down.

If the Federal Government does shut down, Oregon's Soldiers and Airmen will not conduct weekend drills. However, command will communicate with Soldiers and Airmen to adjust drill dates.

Designated key personnel will continue to report to work, but other Federal Technicians on the Oregon payroll will not be allowed to work until funding is approved by Congress.

The Oregon National Guard Active Guard and Reserve (AGR) will continue to work and will be back-paid when funding has been approved. This is also the case with federally-reimbursed state employees.

Public safety and security, as well as the security of military installations are the Oregon National Guard's top priority. Regardless of a shutdown, plans and personnel are in place to ensure these priorities are met.

The Oregon National Guard is "Always Ready, Always There."
