Armed Forces Day celebration at State Capitol to honor military
SALEM, Ore. - Oregon Gov. John Kitzhaber and the Adjutant General, Oregon, Maj. Gen. Raymond F. Rees, are scheduled to attend an observance ceremony for Armed Forces Day at 11:30 a.m., May 19, at the State Capitol Mall.
Also scheduled to attend the ceremony is Congressman Kurt Schrader, 5th District Rep., along with other local and state elected officials and  business and civic leaders.
The event will feature displays from various units throughout the Oregon National Guard.
The Oregon Army National Guard’s 234th Army Band, and high school Junior ROTC teams from local communities will also be featured.
The ceremony will conclude with a flyover by F-15 Eagles from the 142 Fighter Wing based in Portland, and a howitzer salute by the Oregon Army National Guard’s 2nd Battalion, 218th Field Artillery out of Forest Grove.
The month of May has been dedicated as a national observance honoring military members of the armed forces based on Congressional legislation passed in 2004.
The public and the media are encouraged to attend.
