Eligibility: The Oregon Parks and Recreation Department’s (OPRD) 2009 Photo Contest (Contest) is open to amateur photographers of any age. All employees of OPRD, and their immediate family members (spouses, parents, children, siblings, grandparents, and their respective spouses) are not eligible to participate. "Amateur photographers" are defined as anyone who makes less than 5% of their income from taking photographs, and is not a member o f a professional photo organization.
Contest Period: The 2009 photo contest has ended. Check here for information about the 2010 contest.
Photo Criteria: All entries must be taken of an OPRD property. Photographs that depict anything not adhering to posted OPRD property rules, or which are inappropriate, indecent or obscene, as determined by OPRD, will be disqualified.
All photographs must be original images taken by the entrant and cannot have been previously published. Your submission of each photograph is your guarantee that you are the author and copyright holder of the photograph. Your submission also guarantees you’ve obtained permission of all identifiable people in photos to use their image. Finalists will be asked to sign a photo waiver form.
Photos that have been noticeably digitally manipulated will be disqualified. OPRD reserves the right to edit, adapt, and publish any or all of the photos submitted and may use them in any media without attribution or compensation to the contestant. Submission of an entry gives OPRD unrestricted rights to use photographs without compensation.
Dimensions and Form: A .jpeg or .tiff file is required. Images up to 5.0 megabytes will be accepted online. Winning images less than 2500 x 1500 pixels must have a higher resolution version available upon request. Photo entries with the required dimensions will also be accepted on CD through the mail. Film photos may be scanned and saved on a CD as a .jpeg or .tiff by your local photo developer.
How to Enter: Visit www.oregonstateparks.org/goclick to register and submit up to three (3) photo entries. Remember, only .jpegs or .tiffs are accepted. For mailed entries, print a copy of the online entry form and mail in with up to three (3) photos on a CD. Send CD entries to OPRD Photo Contest, 725 Summer St. NE, Suite C, Salem, OR 97301. All entries will become part of OPRD’s permanent photo collection and will not be returned. Entries submitted online will receive an emailed entry confirmation.
Deadline: The contest officially ends August 1, 2009 at 5 p.m. (PST). Entries received on CD must be postmarked by July 27, 2009. The winners will be notified by August 19, 2009, with a public announcement and display at the 2009 Oregon State Fair.
Judging: Judges will choose the contest winners based on the following criteria:
- Geographic and scenic diversity.
- Depiction of nature, history/culture and recreation. For example:
Nature – vistas, sunsets, wildlife, beaches, scenics.
History/Culture – Historic properties such as Vista House, Kam Wah Chung, Fort Stevens, or interpretive events.
Recreation – hiking, biking, fishing, camping, Frisbee.
- Technical execution, including composition, lighting, overall quality and resolution.
- Creativity.
Prizes: Winners will be notified by phone or email no later than August 19, 2009. Photos will be on display at the Oregon State Fair beginning August 28, 2009.
One (1) Grand Prize:
One (1) Grand Prize photograph will receive one (1) Oregon State Parks camping certificate valued for fourteen (14) nights of your choice in any Oregon State Park campground. The camping certificate can be used as payment for Oregon State Parks overnight charges and is subject to both OPRD and Reservation Northwest rules and regulations. It is also subject to campsite availability. It is not redeemable for items sold by private concessionaires, friends groups, etc. It is not convertible to cash.
Two (2) Honorable Mention:
Two (2) honorable mention photographs will receive one (1) 24-month Oregon State Parks day-use pass.
Other uses: Photos submitted to the Contest, but not chosen, may be used in future OPRD print and online communications.
