The annual Oregon State Parks Day arrives June 4, 2011, with free camping and day-use parking at every state park in Oregon. Visitors to state park campgrounds can stay in full hookup (sewer, electricity and water), electrical hookup (electricity and water) and tent sites.
Campsite reservations may be made online or by calling Reservations Northwest (1-800-452-5687) before 5 p.m. June 3. The usual $8 reservation fee will be charged.
This year, Oregon State Parks is excited to partner with the Oregon Recreation and Parks Association (ORPA) to launch Outdoor Seekers. Outdoor Seekers is a new program championing every child's right to explore the outdoors. The program’s website, www.outdoorseekers.com, features a map with more than 300 Oregon locations where you and your kids can:
- Follow a Trail
- Go Boating
- Camp Out Under the Stars
- Learn to Swim
- Walk Barefoot on a Beach
- Climb a Tree
- Observe Animals in their Habitat
- Catch a Fish
- Play in a Nearby Park
- Explore Oregon’s Culture and History
A list of those activities appears in an Outdoor Seekers passport . After completing each activity, your child can send it to ORPA, and become an official "Outdoor Seeker." The passport holder will receive a certificate and a fun, mystery prize. On June 4, before heading out to your favorite state park, make sure you check www.outdoorseekers.com to learn more about the program and download a passport!
