Safety tips

Willamette Valley Scenic Bikeway road sign Road signs are installed only on state roads in Polk County. On Polk County roads, please navigate using this and other maps.

Although these are rural roads, they do occasionally get busy. There are few paved shoulders in the outlying areas. Watch for traffic, especially farm equipment. If you must stop, move off the roadway.

Avoid riding in heavy fog.

Make sure your bicycle and personal safey equipment are in good repair. Wear a helmet and bright clothing. When riding after dark, you must use a white light visibile at least 500'  to the front and a red light or reflector at leat 600' to the rear.

Be courteous with other roadway users. Follow the rules of the road. Ride with the normal traffic flow, as far to the right side of the roadway as you can. Bicyclists may ride two abreast, but should do so only when it is safe and will not impede traffic. Some drinking water can be found along the route, but bring plenty of your own.
