The section from Champoeg State Heritage Area to Keizer is mostly flat, following country roads. If you are riding in the summer and fall, look for the hop fields. Oregon ranks second in hop production in the United States. Willamette Valley hops are shipped worldwide and are an important beer ingredient, especially in the Oregon style of IPA.

The route through Keizer follows pleasant residential streets and a short section of paved bike/pedestrian trail. Keizer’s business district is east of the bikeway and is easily accessed by turning east on Chemawa Road and riding 0.7 miles to River Road.

The northern end of the bikeway marks where Oregon’s first provisional government was formed in 1843.
Champoeg offers camping including hiker/bicyclist sites, yurts and cabins. A four-mile bicycle trail leads to the historic Butteville Store (open seasonally). Visitors can buy snacks, sandwiches and gift items. The small town of St. Paul, several miles to the west of the route, has a small grocery store and post office.

A limited number of parking spaces can be reserved by bicyclists to leave their vehicles overnight. Call the park, 503-678-1251, to make arrangements.

Reverend Jason Lee built a mission here in 1834 to teach American Indians in the Oregon Country. Today, the old mission building has been rebuilt as a ghost structure. The first white women to enter the Willamette Valley arrived at the mission in 1837.
Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the park has miles of hiking, bicycling and horseback riding trails. The park has a reservation only group campsite.
Camping
Beaver Island group campsite has room for 100 tent campers. This is a primitive site. Call 1-800-452-5687 for reservations.
Take a break and visit this 120-acre park that sits along the banks of the Willamette River. To reach the park, turn west on Chemawa Road in Keizer.
Sunset Park in Keizer is located at 3800 Rivercrest Drive N. The park has 150 feet of pedestrian river access.
