OPRD's number one supporter, Loran L. "Stub" Stewart, served nearly 40 years on the State Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee and the Oregon Parks and Recreation Commission. Oregon State Parks grew by leaps and bounds thanks in part to his enthusiasm and commitment.
Stub's famous career began in 1946, when he and some family bought a small timber and lumber company. He built it into a multimillion-dollar enterprise, employing more than 2,000 people in mills throughout Oregon and northern California. He also was a state legislator, and served three terms in the House of Representatives from 1951- 55.
