Bandon State Natural Area
The Oregon State Parks and Recreation Commission expects to receive a land trade proposal in the next month from Bandon Biota related to Bandon State Natural Area. Bandon Biota is described as a private "conservation land holding entity" owned by Michael Keiser, owner of Bandon Dunes and other local golf courses. Bandon Biota proposes to use part of the land they've requested to create a new golf course.
    Here's what we know today:

    1. The Oregon Parks and Recreation Department and representatives with Bandon Biota have created a framework for an agreement to exchange a portion of Bandon State Natural Area in trade for property, cash and in-kind gorse control services.
    2. A legal team is writing out the specifics of the proposal. No details will be ready for public comment until the first week of July.
    3. The Oregon State Parks and Recreation Commission will meet in Coos Bay on July 17. Approximately two weeks before that meeting, the details of the proposal will be described in the Commission agenda materials and available to the public.
    4. The Commission will take public comment about the proposal at their July 17 meeting. It will not vote ... it will listen.
    5. Anyone who wishes to speak on the proposed agreement can do so at that meeting, or in writing before or after the meeting, until the end of July.
    6. The earliest the Commission could act on the proposal is September 2013 in Condon.
