GENERAL INFORMATION
The Oregon State Board of Nursing safeguards the public's health and well-being by providing guidance for, and regulation of, entry into the profession, nursing education and continuing safe practice. The Board is seeking an investigator to investigate suspected violations of the Nurse Practice Act.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
 
  • Reviews the original complaint and/or allegation to evaluate specific issues for investigation.
  • Prioritizes cases based on the severity of alleged compliant and level of risk to public safety.
  • Determines plan of inquiry, outlining projected scope, timing and direction of investigation.
  • Works closely with other state agencies, legal counsel and law enforcement as appropriate.
  • Evaluates information from records relating to past or present history relevant to the case.
  • Obtains evidence and conducts fact finding according to the rules of evidence through such methods as interviews, observation and collection of physical evidence to establish facts that prove or disprove alleged violations.
  • Prepares and presents findings in clear, concise and properly documented formal reports to the Board.
  • Answers questions from the Board regarding the investigation and makes recommendations.
  • Prepares reports, stipulations, board orders, letters and other documents.
  • Evaluates and monitors compliance of licensees under Board disciplinary orders.
  • Consults with nurse investigators if scope of practice or standards of care issues arise in an investigation.  
WORKING CONDITIONS
 
Frequent confrontational situations in person or by telephone with hostile or upset licensees under investigation. May require occasional travel within the state. A valid driver’s license is required or alternate mode of transportation. May work irregular or overtime hours based on workload.
 
TO QUALIFY
 
Two years of recent (within the last five years) investigative experience which included gathering facts, collecting evidence, examining records, and conducting interviews to verify or disprove claims of suspected law violations. College level courses in law enforcement, criminal justice, law, accounting, auditing or a closely related field may be substituted pm a year for year basis for up to one year of the required experience.
Experience with regulatory investigation relating to healthcare preferred.
 
If offered employment, the offer will be contingent upon the outcome of a criminal background check through the Criminal Justice Information System (CJIS).

2. Summarize your experience in 1) administrative law and 2) criminal law. Describe how these areas differ.
