He received his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Oregon School of Nursing (now OHSU), in Eugene, and his Master of Science degree in Community Health Nursing from Arizona State University in Tempe, Ariz.

She received her Associate Degree in Nursing from the College of San Mateo in San Mateo, Calif.
