Equivalency Exams
County Listings
Equivalency Exams are proctored by Marine Patrol officers in the following counties. Pre-registration is required. Often times officers are on patrol in the field, so please leave your name and contact phone number and your call will be returned about registering for an equivalency exam.
 
Baker

  • Call Deputy Adam Robb, (541) 523-6415 for information on local equivalency exams.
Benton

  • Corvallis - Exams offered first Monday of each month, 7 p.m. at 185 NW 5th. Pre-registration required. Call (541) 766-6858.
Clackamas

  • Clackamas - Pre-register through the Clackamas County Sheriffs Boathouse at (503) 655-8650. Testing is at the sheriffs office, located at 82nd & Sunnybrook in Clackamas.
Clatsop

  • Astoria - Pre-register through the Clatsop County Sheriffs Office at (503) 325-8635. Test location is the Sheriff's Office 355 7th.  
  • Jewell - Pre-register through the Clatsop County Sheriffs Office at (503) 325-8635. Test location is at the Jewell Substation, 29532 Hwy 202.
  • Knappa - Pre-register through the Clatsop County Sheriffs Office at (503) 325-8635. Test location is at the Knappa Sheriffs Substation, 92435 Svensen Rd.
  • Seaside - Pre-register through the Clatsop County Sheriffs Office at (503) 325-8635. Call for testing information.
  • Warrenton - Pre-register through the Clatsop County Sheriffs Office at (503) 325-8635. Test location is at the Warrenton Fire Deptartment on 201 S. Main Street.
Columbia

  • Call Deputy John Hinkle at (503) 366-4650 for information on local equivalency exams.
Coos

  • Call Deputy Doug Strain at (541) 396-3121 ext 742 for information on equivalency exams.
Crook

  • Prineville - Equivalency Exam offered Saturday May 9, 2009 at Crook County Fire and Rescue Building, 405 N. Belnap St. in Prineville.  This exam will commence at 9:00 am and take approximately one-hour.  Pre-study is required.  You must obtain the Boat Oregon Book from the Sheriff's Office and study the material in order to pass.  Those who pass will be eligible to obtain their Boater Education Card through the Oregon State Marine Board.  All material will be provided by the Sheriff's Office.  For more information please call The Crook County Marine Patrol Office at (541) 447-6398.
 
Curry

  • Gold Beach - Curry County Sheriffs Office is located at 450 N. Ellensburg. For more information contact Deputy Ted Heath at (541) 247-3250. Equivalency exams are held on Sundays at 9:30 a.m by appointment.
Deschutes

  • Bend - Pre-register through the Deschutes County Marine Patrol, (541) 388-6503.
  • Exams scheduled for: May 19, June 20, July 22, August 22 & September 24th.
  • 5:45 p.m. to 9 p.m.
  • Exams held at 63333 West Highway 20 -Sheriff's Office.
Douglas

  • Equivalency exams offered at Umpqua Community College (Workforce Training Center, 2555 Diamond Lk. Blvd., Roseburg) from 6 p.m. - 10 p.m. for the following dates: TBA.
  • Call Judy Ode at Umpquah Community College, 541-440-7691 for information and pre-registration.
  • Students need to pick up Boat Oregon -A Course on Responsible Boating Manual and complete the chapter quizzes in the back of the book prior to attending.
  • Materials can be obtained from the Umpqua Community College Workforce Training Center, 2555 Diamond Lk. Blvd., Roseburg (next to Abby's).
  • Cost: $15
Gilliam

Hood

  • Hood River - Tests will be scheduled as community interest dictates. Contact Deputy Mike Anderson, Hood River County Marine Patrol at (541) 386-2098.
Jackson

  • Medford / White City - Pre-register through the Jackson County Sheriffs Office at (541) 864-8844
  • Office is located at 620 Antelope, in White City.
  • Tests are scheduled for Saturdays 9:00am-10:00am.
Jefferson

  • Pre-register through the Jefferson County Sheriff Office. Call Sgt. Marc Heckathorn at (541) 475-6520 x 4315 for more information.
Josephine

  • Grants Pass - Pre-register through the Josephine County Sheriffs Office, Deputy Ernie Fields at (541) 474-5271 x 5740 for testing dates and times.
Klamath

  • Klamath Falls - Testing will be held Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. (excluding recognized state and federal holidays). Testing held at Sheriffs Office, 3300 Vandenberg Rd.  No appointment necessary!
Lake

  • Lakeview - Call Oregon State Police, (541) 947-2267, for information on local equivalency exams.
Lane

  • Eugene - Contact Deputy Jon Bock, (541) 682-4141. 2nd Tuesday of the month at 6:30 p.m. at the Lane County Courthouse, room 175. Pre-registration required.
Lincoln

  • Newport -Pre-register through Lincoln County Sheriffs Office, Deputy Bruce McGuire at (541) 265-4277 x 4465. Exam is held at 840 NE 7th, Newport.
Linn

  • Albany - Exams scheduled for (TBA) at the the Linn County Sheriff's Office, 1115 Jackson St., SE, in Albany. Contact Linn County Marine Patrol at 1-800-884-3911.
 
Malheur

  • Ontario/Vale - Equivalency Exams offered upon request.  Pre-register through the Malheur County Sheriffs Office, Deputy Anthony Hackman, (541) 473-5126.

Marion

  • Salem/Stayton - Exam offered third Wednesday of each month, 7:00pm-9:00pm Call Marion County Sheriffs Office, Deputy David Zahn at (503) 566-6991 to pre-register for equivalency exam.
  • Salem - Equivalency exams offered upon request. Call Julio at (503) 378-5163 to schedule an exam. Exam given at the Marine Board Office, 435 Commercial St. NE #400 (see map).
Morrow

  • Heppner - Tests held at Stokes Landing Senior Center. Contact Morrow County Sheriffs Office, Sergeant Randy Rayburn at (541) 676-5317 for dates and times.
Multnomah

  • Portland Metro area - Pre-registration required. Call Sergeant Tim Lichatowich, Multnomah County Sheriffs Office at (503) 988-6788 (River Patrol Office) to schedule an exam time.
Polk

  • Dallas - Pre-register through the Polk County Sheriffs Office, Deputy Tony Unger, at (503) 623-9251. Office is located at 850 Main St.
  • All tests will be at 7:00 p.m. in the main conference room at the Polk County Courthouse next to the Sheriffs Office.
Sherman

  • Call Deputy Cliff Jett at (541) 565-3622 for information on local equivalency exams.
Tillamook

  • Pacific City - Pre-register contact Tillamook County Sheriffs Office, Deputy Kelly Awe, at (503) 815-3316. Equivalency exams can be taken at the Tillamook County Sheriff's Office -5995 Long Prairie Rd., Tillamook, 97141. 
  • Tillamook/Garibaldi - Pre-register contact Tillamook County Sheriffs Office at (503) 815-3316. A Marine Deputy will contact you to arrange for date and time. Exams held at the US Coast Guard Station, 1200 Garibaldi Ave., Hwy 101, Garibaldi.
Umatilla
