Port of Siuslaw Marina Earns Clean Marina Honor
The Oregon State Marine Board designated the Port of Siuslaw, in Florence, as the 33rd certified Clean Marina in Oregon, on November 19.
The Port of Siuslaw has a long history of being a valued member of the business community. The Port of Siuslaw has implemented strong environmental practices that include a garbage recycling program, moorage rules protecting water quality, a boat sewage pump out station free for boaters, a parking lot with storm water drains that contain oil absorbent inserts to trap contaminants, a compliant fueling station, and fishing line recycling containers. The Port of Siuslaw also distributes free boater spill kits, and has an emergency response plan if there’s an oil leak into the bay. “Facilities who earn Clean Marina Certification show a strong commitment to protecting the environment,” says Glenn Dolphin, Clean Marina Coordinator for the Oregon Marine Board. “Boaters and the general public will know that certified facilities are doing all they can to preserve and protect Oregon’s wonderful natural resources.” Dolphin adds.
As a certified Clean Marina, the Port of Siuslaw receives an Oregon Clean Marina flag, a framed certificate, and an oil spill response kit. These items, along with the authorization to use the Clean Marina logo and recognition in Marine Board publications, are a few of the benefits to participating marine facilities.
Oregon Clean Marina is a voluntary enrollment program that recognizes marinas, boatyards, yacht clubs, and floating home moorages that, along with being in compliance with existing environmental regulations, use a high percentage of environmentally responsible practices.
The Oregon Clean Marina Program is sponsored by the Oregon State Marine Board and is in partnership with the Oregon Coastal Management Program, the Lower Columbia River Estuary Partnership, Oregon State University Extension Service – Sea Grant Program and the Oregon Department of Environmental Quality.
