Marine Board Offers New Education Assistance Program
The Oregon State Marine Board recently approved a new rule that allows the agency to financially assist non-profit organizations who promote boating safety education programs.
The Marine Board’s new “Boating Safety/Education Assistance Program” provides funds for new, unique or innovative ideas or programs that promote safe boating and increase youth involvement in recreational boating. Funds of up to $2,500 will be awarded to individual boating safety groups.
“Applications from non-profit organizations (with a 501(c) 3 IRS designation) are being accepted until March 31, 2008,” says MariAnn Koloszar, Education Coordinator for the Marine Board. “We’re encouraging groups who promote boating safety to apply. As an example, funds could be used to expand life jacket loaner stations or similar projects that keep kids safe when they’re out on the water. We’re also interested in innovative programs that get kids involved in recreational boating.”
Applications for funding will be reviewed each year from January through March. “There’s plenty of time to submit applications…the 2008 boating season is just around the corner, and now is a perfect time to gear up for safety,” Koloszar adds.
