Marine Board Approves New Grant, Cost Increases

The Oregon State Marine Board approved a new facility grant for the Metropolitan Wastewater Management Commission inLane County at its Tuesday, July 8 meeting in Salem.  The grant is for a regional boat waste pumpout station.  The pumpout station will give area residents a convenient location to dispose of vessel waste after boating trips from other lakes and rivers in the area.  The Board approved $20,000 in state funds which will be combined with a $10,000 in-kind contribution by the applicant and $60,000 in federal Clean Vessel Act funds.  The cost of the pumpout station is $90,000.

The Board also approved necessary cost increases (largely from fluctuating material costs) to the following round one boating facilities projects:

·        M. James Gleason debris deflector and transient tie-up. Cost increase to $1,995,800 with the addition of $37,500 in state funds to match $112,500 in federal Clean Vessel Act funds, $225,000 in cash from METRO, and $300,000 in federal Sport Fish Restoration funds from the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife, and an additional $141,997 in state boater funds.
·        Sandy Beach Transient Tie-Up, Government Island.  The Board approved no more than $500,000 in state funds with the condition that OSMB’s share of the total project be reduced by any cost savings realized by modifications to the project.
