Marine Board Seeks Public Input on Proposed Rules for Holgate Channel, Ross Isl
For Immediate Release -5/1/09

The Oregon State Marine Board is seeking public comment on a proposed motorboat ban on the Ross Island Lagoon and a slow-no-wake zone for the Holgate Channel.
In March, the Marine Board received a petition to open the rulemaking process for a no-wake-zone in the Holgate Channel between Ross Island and the east bank of the Willamette River, and a motor ban in the Ross Island Lagoon.  The petition was submitted by Willamette Riverkeeper, the Urban Green Spaces Institute and the Portland Audubon Society.
The Marine Board will conduct a public hearing in Portland on May 27 to hear comments on the proposed rule action.  The hearing will be held at 7 p.m. in the auditorium of the Portland Building, 1120 SW Fifth Ave, in Portland.  A decision on the proposed rule will be made by the Board at a special Board meeting in Portland later in July.
Written comments are being accepted until May 31 and can be mailed to June LeTarte, OSMB, P.O. Box 14145, Salem, OR 97309.  Comments can also be sent via email to osmb.rulemaking@state.or.us, or fax (503) 378-4597.  Comments by telephone cannot be accepted.
