Marine Board Approves Grant for OYCC
For Immediate Release -4/13/12
The Oregon Youth Conservation Corp (OYCC) received a grant from the Oregon State Marine Board to put youth to work in six counties around the state. The Marine Board approved the grant at its quarterly Board meeting on April 11, in Springfield.
The OYCC contracts county youth programs to hire youth crews to enhance multiple public recreational boating access sites, statewide. This year Clatsop, Columbia, Jackson, Josephine, Lane and Tillamook Counties will have a boating facility youth crew.  A total of 51 youth will learn valuable work-skills through conservation and community service projects. A total of 30 public recreational boating access sites will be enhanced. Projects include re-striping parking areas, boarding float repair, pruning vegetation, painting restrooms, and repairing vandalism. The Marine Board has been a partner with OYCC since 1989. The Program is a win-win situation by providing summer jobs and work experience for youth and improving boater’s experiences at enhanced boating facilities.
The OYCC was awarded $55,000 in state boater funds which will be combined with $113,986 in-kind contributions. The projected total cost is $129,202.
