Arson is recognized as the highest dollar loss crime and the most violent means of loss of life to the citizens of Oregon. The need exists to protect the people of Oregon from loss of life and property by reducing the crime of arson, arson-related crimes and the prevention of future violent crimes by identifying and targeting serial/predatory/habitual violent offenders. The Arson/Explosives Section addresses this need by establishing a sound foundation of effective enforcement, focused towards the apprehension of the arsonist, while in partnership with the public being served. This progressive approach lends itself to the prevention of arson by serving as a deterrent to others, while rewarding those in the community for the assistance in apprehending the arson element.
