Unknown Powder Substance Removed from Oregon Veteran's Building

An unknown powder substance found Monday morning in a letter received on the first floor at the Oregon Veteran's Building in Salem will be turned over to the FBI for further testing. No state employees were exposed and there was no evacuation to the building.
 

On March 26, 2007 at approximately 11:20 a.m., an employee of the Veteran's Affairs Department at the Oregon Veteran's Building, 700 Summer Street, opened an envelope containing a letter and an unknown powder substance contained in a plastic baggie. Oregon State Police and Salem Fire Department Hazardous Materials personnel responded. That section of the first floor was isolated while the incident was initially investigated.
 

The powder substance will be turned over to the FBI for further testing. Oregon State Police and FBI will be conducting further investigation.
 

No information regarding the contents of the letter will be released.
