WHAT: These devices will help the Oregon State Police more quickly identify the use of accelerants used to start fires. The detectors will be utilized by detectives in the following communities – Portland, Salem, Medford/Central Point, Bend and Pendleton. Along with the presentation will be a demonstration of how the detectors work. WHEN: Thursday, December 7 9:00 a.m. – 9:30 a.m. WHERE: 7632 SW Durham Rd. Tigard, OR 97224 WHY: Arson is recognized as the highest dollar loss crime and the most violent means of loss of life to the citizens of Oregon. The Oregon State Police provide specially trained and qualified investigators who provide expertise in conducting complex arson investigations. Over the past six years, the Oregon State Police have responded to an average of 195 fires, of which approximately 55 percent were determined to be arson. The need for these investigators to have helpful tools like combustible gas detectors exists to protect the people of Oregon from loss of life and property.
