Triple Fatal Traffic Crash - Highway 97 North of Klamath Falls

Two Spokane, Washington men and a Merced, California man have been identified as the victims in Friday night's triple fatal traffic crash involving two commercial trucks about five miles north of Klamath Falls on Highway 97.
 
On December 8, 2006 at 9:40 p.m, a northbound and a southbound commercial truck collided head-on in the northbound lane of Highway 97 near milepost 266. Both trucks became fully engulfed in flames.
 
Two occupants in the northbound truck were identified LEWIS EARL PURCELL JR., age 40, from Spokane, Washington, and DEVIN MICHAEL MALMOE, age 18, from Spokane Valley, Washington. The other victim in the southbound truck is identified as ANDREW DAVID ACEVEDO, age 44, from Merced, California.
 
OSP Troopers from the Klamath Area Command, Klamath County Fire District 1 and other local emergency response personnel responded to the scene. Klamath County Fire District 1 subsequently extinguished the fire.
 
The entire highway was blocked as a result of the collision.
 
ODOT responded to the scene and assisted with a detour around the crash.
