Wildfire Awareness Week is May 3-9, 2009. It is the fourth consecutive year Governor Ted Kulongoski has declared the first full week of May as "Wildfire Awareness Week" in Oregon by issuing a proclamation. It is the first year of a cooperative recognition by Oregon, Nevada and California. The week is set aside to remind all Oregonians that wildfires increasingly threaten their lives and their homes. Oregonians living in the wildland urban interface are especially vulnerable to these fires.
Keep Oregon Green's (KOG) Wildfire Awareness Steering Committee members include KOG, Office of State Fire Marshal, Oregon Department of Forestry and the insurance industry.
The committee is providing wildfire awareness information statewide during the 2009 Wildfire Awareness Week May 3-9, 2009.
