Oregon Sex Offender Registration Program
The Oregon State Police, Sex Offender Registration Unit, tracks registration of persons convicted of sex crimes who reside, work or attend school within the state of Oregon.  The Unit is the state repository for information within the state, encompassing adult and juvenile offenders.  As of May 2007 the Unit maintained files on 13,873 individuals who are required to register in Oregon.  This does not include those persons who have moved from Oregon to other states, nor does it include those individuals who are currently incarcerated in correctional facilities (i.e., state and federal prisons, youth correctional institutions, detention centers and some medical treatment facilities).
The Unit (i.e., State Registry) provides information to the general public regarding registered sex offenders living in their neighborhoods by name, city, zip code or county.  Those registered sex offenders who have been designated Predatory under Oregon Revised Statute 181.585, who present the highest risk of reoffending and require the widest range of community notification are listed on the Oregon Predatory Public Website at http://sexoffenders.oregon.gov.  Listed as public information under Oregon Revised Statute 181.592 is the following information on the approximate 760 Predatory sex offenders currently posted to the website:
Date of Birth
Physical Descriptors (height, weight, hair and eye color, SMTs = scars, marks, tattoos)
Last registered residential address
Vehicle descriptors (make, model, color – license plate information is notincluded)
Target Information (sex(es) and age(s) of victims)
Method of offending (if one can be identified)
Photograph of offender
Supervising agency contact information (for offenders on parole, probation or post-prison supervision)
Oregon State Police Registration Unit Contact Information (for offenders no longer under supervision)
Information on the remaining registered sex offenders in Oregon can be obtained in hard copy format by calling the Sex Offender Registration Unit’s List Line at (503) 378-3725 Ext. 44429 or by email at SexOffender.Questions@state.or.us.  In both cases you will need to include your name, mailing address and the city, zip code or county for which you wish information.  Requests are processed in the order they are received, however, lists are usually mailed within 3-5 business days.
Why are all registered sex offenders contained in the registry not listed on the public website?
Oregon law (ORS 181.592) currently allows the Oregon State Police to post only those registered offenders who have been designated Predatory under Oregon law (ORS 181.585).  Language in the law states that the Oregon State Police will not use the internet to provide information on the remaining sex offenders registered in the state.
A complete listing of statutes pertaining to sex offender registration can be obtained at www.leg.state.or.us/ors  or on this website under “Current Statutes”.  Changes to current laws dictating the release of information must be made legislatively.  You may contact your local state senator and/or representative.  A list of these officials can be obtained at www.oregon.gov under “Elected Officials”. Questions regarding the Oregon State Police Sex Offender Registration program can be directed to sexoffender.questions@state.or.us or by calling (503) 378-3720.
