Lost In The Line of Duty
Donald E. Smith of Gold Beach, appointed November 1st, 1972. Officer Smith died July 11th, 1983, when the airplane in which he and a Deputy Sheriff were riding in crashed in a remote wilderness area in Southern Oregon while on a marijuana observation flight.
