FACILITIES ENGINEER 2
$3,548 - $5,188 MONTHLY


 
This is a limited duration position with the Oregon Wireless Interoperability Network (OWIN) project for the Oregon State Police (OSP). OWIN has the responsibility for planning the wireless communications infrastructure consolidation for all of the State of Oregon’s departments and agencies. This limited duration assignment is due to end June 30, 2009.
 
This recruitment will be used to establish a list of qualified applicants and may be used to fill future vacancies.  These positions are represented by the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME).  Union members pay union dues;
non-union members pay "fair share."
 
AGENCY OVERVIEW
 
OSP’s mission is to enhance the livability and safety by protecting the people, property, and natural resources of the State. OSP employs more than 1,300 sworn and professional staff in the areas of patrol, criminal investigation, forensic services, medical examiner, state fire marshal, gaming regulation, fish and wildlife regulation, public safety communications, and information management with a biennial budget of approximately $327 million total funds. 
 
TO QUALIFY:
 
Your PD100 application form will be reviewed to verify that you meet the qualifications stated in this section.  To receive credit, your application form must clearly show that you have: 
  • Two years of engineering experience and a Bachelor's degree in either Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management Engineering, or Energy Management Engineering; OR 
  • an equivalent combination of related training and experience.
 
To receive credit for all required/related coursework, you must submit a photocopy of your transcripts with your application.
 
SCOPE OF THE POSITION
 
Lay out and draw schematics, block diagrams, components and circuit layouts to assist the telecommunication engineers and technicians in complying with the integration/consolidation of the wireless communications systems for the state of Oregon.  Obtain and disseminate information and resolve discrepancies related to work projects.  Coordinate projects with federal, state, local and tribal public safety agencies affected. 
 
Record, update, and maintain information regarding communication sites used in statewide communication systems.  Design, draw, and update maps.  Maintain and update files and documentation of project plans, schematics, surveys, remote sites, path profiles and artwork. 
 
Interpret and prepare layouts on field notes and drawings to develop workable forms and mediums for preliminary planning of projects.  Calculates latitude and longitude coordinates to determine physical location of sites.  Design, draw and submit architectural plans and proposals to obtain approval to develop or alter new or existing telecommunication sites.  Design and draw system flow charts.
 
Designs projects, specifies equipment and materials needed and calculates costs by using engineering principles, methods and mathematical calculations.  Uses conventional or computer aided design drafting systems to prepare final drawings, specifications and cost estimates. Interpret blueprints and schematics to determine material needs and establish a schedule.  Produce blueprints and plans. 
 
WORKING CONDITIONS
 
Typical office environment.  Occasional may visit communication sites which have rough and uneven terrain in inclement weather conditions.
 
Applicants should possess or be able to obtain a valid state driver's license or provide alternative means for travel.
