Effective immediately, the Oregon Veterinary Board will screen applications for eligibility only. The screening fee is $25. Applicants must also apply directly to the American Association of Veterinary State Boards (AAVSB) to take the VTNE. The VTNE fee is $200. Once we have screened and approved your application, we will notify you and inform AAVSB that you are eligible. AAVSB will notify you of the time and place of the test. Be aware that if you have not applied directly to AAVSB, you may not sit for the exam, even if you are qualified through Oregon. AAVSB deadlines and other information are available on their website: www.aavsb.org.
Effective January 2011, applicants with only on-the-job (OTJ) experience will not be allowed to sit for the VTNE.
Applicants claiming OTJ experience must provide W-2 forms that substantiate OTJ hours claimed. For 2009, include paystubs that show year-to-date hours.
Beginning with the June 2009 test, only those OTJ applicants whose experience was obtained in Oregon are eligible.
Applicants who have taken the VTNE five times in the last five years and failed are no longer eligible. Such applicants will again be eligible only upon completion of an AVMA-accredited veterinary technology program.
Applicants who have five years’ experience as a licensed veterinary technician in another state, and who graduated from an accredited veterinary technology program prior to 1990, may be licensed without taking the VTNE. Note that proof of licensure status and an official transcript are required.
Please read the Oregon Administrative Rules on the next page before submitting an application. The $25 screening fee is not refundable; therefore, it is important that you understand whether or not you are eligible to apply.
