New Online Reporting

OWEB is pleased to announce online reporting for the Oregon Watershed Restoration Inventory (OWRI).  Using Adobe Reader (a free download), OWRI forms can be filled out electronically as a PDF file, saved locally to your hard drive, and submitted later online to OWEB as a completed form.  OWEB anticipates that online submission will expedite data entry and save resources such as paper and postage that were required when submitting paper copies of the form.

We encourage you to provide feedback and suggestions for future modifications.  New user-friendly features added to this year's version of the OWRI online form include addition of a second Landowner field, a "reset" button that clears data quickly, and an abbreviated form for forestry operators.

Features Offered with the Online Form
  1. Using OWRI forms as a template:  If you have several restoration projects to report, you can fill out the form for one project and save it.  Then, you can copy that file to a new name, open it up, and change just those items that need to be changed.
  2. Forms can be filled out offline:  The PDF version of the OWRI form can be filled out offline, which means you do not have to stay connected to the Internet while you are filling out the form.  You only have to be online when you are ready to submit it.
  3. Saving the form locally:  The PDF version of the OWRI form can be saved on your local machine with the free version of Adobe Reader.  This benefit means you can save the form, fill it out, and use it as a template to report another project.
Each project submitted to the OWRI is reviewed by OWEB staff.  Submissions by OWEB grantees are anticipated to be reviewed on a weekly basis.  You will be contacted if OWEB staff require clarification about your submission.

What is OWRI?
The OWRI inventories restoration data for the state of Oregon and is managed by OWEB.  OWRI is the single largest database containing information about restoration projects in the western United States.  This database originated as the means to track detailed information about the restoration efforts undertaken in the name of the Oregon Plan for Salmon and Watersheds.  Initiated in 1995, the database contains over 10,000 records of restoration projects completed throughout Oregon.  While the database contains information about grants funded by OWEB, the majority of the OWRI entries represent voluntary actions of private citizens and landowners, working in partnership with federal, state, and local groups to improve aquatic habitat and water quality conditions.

Watershed restoration projects included in this inventory must be:
  • Activities designed to restore aquatic, riparian, estuarine, wetland, upland, or overall watershed conditions or functions
  • Completed projects or a completed phase of a project
  • Activities above and beyond normal maintenance and management procedures in cases such as road and culvert improvements, erosion control, etc.
Information provided to the OWRI has been used to report on Oregon Plan accomplishments, support effectiveness monitoring of restoration activities, and support watershed assessments and future restoration project planning and prioritization. OWEB invites you to report accomplishments in watershed restoration by submitting data to OWRI.

Deadline for Reporting
Although we accept reporting forms (online or paper submissions) throughout the year, please complete your reporting of projects implemented in 2008 to OWRI by March 31, 2009.  If you are reporting a project that used OWEB grant funds, consult your grant agreement for the reporting deadline.

Not Reporting to OWRI this year?
If you are not reporting any projects to OWRI this year (sending in any forms), but are currently implementing restoration projects in Oregon, please download this reply card  (Word Template), fill it out and email it to OWRI staff.
