Oregon Watershed Restoration Inventory
What is the Oregon Watershed Restoration Inventory?
The Oregon Watershed Restoration Inventory (OWRI) originated at the onset of the Oregon Plan for Salmon and Watersheds to track Oregonians' voluntary efforts to restore habitats for salmon and wildlife. While the database is managed by OWEB and contains information about grants funded by OWEB, the majority of the OWRI entries represent voluntary actions of private citizens and landowners who have worked in partnership with federal, state, and local groups to improve aquatic habitat and water quality conditions. With over 14,000 records of projects completed since 1995, OWRI is the single largest restoration information database in the Western United States.  

You are invited to submit data of your watershed restoration accomplishments. To be included in the inventory, watershed restoration projects must be:
  • Activities designed to restore aquatic, riparian, estuarine, wetland, upland, or overall watershed conditions or functions
  • Completed projects or a completed phase of a project
  • Activities above and beyond normal maintenance and management procedures in cases such as road and culvert improvements, erosion control, etc.
 
How OWRI information is used:
  • To report Oregon Plan for Salmon and Watershed accomplishments
  • To support effectiveness monitoring of restoration activities
  • To inform watershed assessments and future restoration project planning and prioritization

The OWRI Online Reporting tool (OWRIO) was released to the public on March 15, 2011, replacing other methods (paper forms and Adobe submission form) of submitting data.
 
Benefits to using OWRIO include:
  • Save time, paper, and postage
  • Enter data at one sitting or over many sessions
  • Share project reporting with another user
  • 'Verify Project' feature ensures that required data are entered
  • 'Clone Project' feature allows data to be copied and then modified for use in another project
  • 'Upload Map' feature provides easy upload and viewing capabilities (no need to email a map)
  • View data at any time, including current and past projects and reports from other users (upon request)
  • View the project submission status, including acknowledgement of successful map submission
 
OWRI Online Reporting Tool  
 
To submit your data, please use the OWRI online reporting tool. The Adobe submission form and hard-copy forms have not been revised to the current OWRI data collection standards and are no longer being accepted.
 
Each project submitted to the OWRI is reviewed by OWEB staff. Submissions by OWEB grantees are anticipated to be reviewed on a weekly basis. You will be contacted if OWEB staff require claification about your submission.

Get Data from OWRI
You may access OWRI data in several ways:

  • Tables/GIS Data: The Oregon Explorer makes MS Access and MS Excel versions of the OWRI database available through a partnership with the Institute for Natural Resources and Oregon State University Libraries.  In addition, shapefiles and a geodatabase are available for download.  Click here to access OWRI data on Oregon Explorer.
