Water Conservation
 
We can all do our part to lessen the effects of limited water supplies this summer. We can start by conserving the water we use today. Check out the links below for information on how you can save water.

The Water Resources Department has dispatched additional staff resources to the Klamath Watermaster’s Office.  On March 17, 18, and 19, water rights specialist Joel Plahn will be available to help Klamath irrigators and other water users apply for emergency drought permits.  Mr. Plahn will be physically located at the Watermaster’s Office (5170 Summers Lane in Klamath Falls) and also available by phone (541-883-4182, ext. 223).  Water Resources Department staff will be available by appointment throughout the coming weeks and months, and reachable at the phone number above.

This process allows the use of water from an alternate source.   Holders of a water right permit, certificate, decree right or claim are eligible.
 
Temporary Drought Transfers (OAR 690-019-0055):

This process allows a temporary change in character of use, place of use, or point(s) of diversion/appropriation.  Holders of a water right permit, certificate, decree right or claim are eligible.

This process allows the holder of a water right subject to transfer to lease that water right for in-stream use.  Holders of a water right subject to transfer are eligible.
 
Temporary Substitution of Supplemental Ground Water Right for Surface Water Primary Right (OAR 690-019-0059):

This process allows the holder of a water right permit, certificate, or claim to use a supplemental ground water right in favor of a primary surface right.   Those holding both a primary surfacewater right and a supplemental groundwater right are eligible.
