Lieutenant Dave Okada
Lt. Dave Okada has 22 years experience in law enforcement. He began his career with the Marion County Sheriff’s Office in 1987 and held positions on patrol and detectives (investigating robberies, child abuse and homicide) before being promoted to Sergeant, then Lieutenant. He commanded the Field Training Program, Trauma Team, Search and Rescue, Marine Enforcement and multi-agency HIDTA Task Force before joining the Salem Police Department as a Lieutenant in 2002.
He is currently in charge of the Special Operations Unit with the Salem Police Department and commands operations in the Youth Services Unit, Drug Enforcement Unit, Gang Response Team, Graffiti Abatement Team, Cadet Program and Civil Investigations Team. He is a sitting member of the multi-agency Adult Threat Advisory Team as well as the multi-agency Student Threat Assessment Team and coordinates departmental participation and investigations on both teams. He is a current member of FBI Joint Terrorist Task Force and local FBI Terrorism Working Group and actively participates in the criminal intelligence network in the Salem area. Lt. Okada regularly instructs at the Oregon Department of Public Safety Standards and Training Academy and is also very active in instructing in the area of violence risk assessments.
Lt Okada graduated Cum Laude from Willamette University with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Psychology. He is also a graduate of the FBI National Academy, DEA Drug Unit Commander’s Academy, National Center For Missing And Exploited Children Commander’s Academy and the Oregon Executive Development Institute.
