John Van Dreal
John Van Dreal is a School Psychologist with the Salem-Keizer school District and has 18 years of experience in educational and clinical evaluation. In 1999, he began the development and implementation of a Student Threat Assessment System that includes community and multi-agency collaboration, staff training and consultation to youth services agencies. Through that collaboration, he works closely with educators, law enforcement, trial court personnel, juvenile justice, and mental health personnel in the assessment and management of threats of violence within the schools and the community. He is a member of ATAP (the Association of Threat Assessment Professionals), a member of Oregonís Mid-valley Student Threat Assessment Team and the Marion County Threat Assessment Team. He has received national and local recognition, including a 2006 Salem Crystal Apple award, for his efforts in threat assessment, education, community service and systems design. Furthermore, he regularly provides training and consultation to regional and national audiences and school districts on student threat assessment systems and youth violence.
