This position is located in a close custody facility. This position includes the preparation of and serve of nutritious, appetizing meals. Ensuring sufficient, adequate, appropriate food products, kitchen items and supplies are available. Supervise and train youth offenders in the preparation and servicing of meals within all required and acceptable health and sanitation standards while maintaining the safety, health and well being of youth offenders. WORKING CONDITIONS 1. Daily contact with youth offenders who may exhibit hostile, assaultive behavior. These positions are located in close custody facilities which require, as a primary responsibility, strict adherence by each employee to security measures at all times to assure the custody, control and supervision of youth offenders. 2. Walk and stand for long periods; 3. Use commercial cooking equipment such as slicers, mixers, choppers, etc 4. May work with and around microwave ovens; 5. May require valid Driver’s License and acceptable driving record 6. OYA Facilities are non smoking facilities. OYA MISSION The mission of the Oregon Youth Authority (OYA) is to protect the public and reduce crime by holding youth offenders accountable and providing opportunities for reformation in safe environments. In support of this mission, the Agency Director’s Message states: “The Oregon Youth Authority's mandate is multi-faceted. Our most important charge is to protect the public and hold youth offenders accountable for their behavior. But at all levels of the organization, our greatest challenge is to provide youth with opportunities to learn personal responsibility, develop social skills, and make positive choices for themselves. Our goal is to prevent youth from moving deeper into the juvenile justice or the adult corrections systems”. As an OYA employee, individuals are a part of the team responsible for the supervision, management and administration of correctional facilities, parole and probation services, community out-of-home placements, and other functions related to state programs for youth corrections. These responsibilities are provided for youth offenders from diverse cultures and backgrounds ranging in age from 12 to 18 (in some cases up to age 25). The youth offenders may reside in one of ten OYA-operated facilities located around the state or may be involved with services under the jurisdiction of OYA such as parole and probation. The Oregon Youth Authority values culturally competent staff to provide a continuum of services to our diverse clientele. THIS IS THE TEST YOU MUST ANSWER THE FOLLOWING QUESTIONS: Use a separate sheet of paper. Write down any work experience (paid or unpaid) and training that you have which is related to each question. Limit your answers to each question to no more than two (2) pages. Be sure that the jobs where you gained the experience you describe in your answers are listed in the Work History section of your application form. Your score will be based on your answers. If there are several parts to a question, answer each part separately. Number your answers to agree with the questions. Attach the answer sheet to your application. Describe the education and/or experience which has given you knowledge of the principles, policies, procedures and state regulations of food preparation and cooking in a volume dining/food service setting. Include your experience in adjusting and standardizing recipes, maintaining production within schedules, and participating in menu planning, recipe development and testing. 2. Describe your experience and level of responsibility in: a) the use of kitchen equipment and materials in a volume dining/food service setting; b) operating commercial kitchen equipment; and c) the use of hazardous chemicals and disinfectants in relation to kitchen equipment and dining areas. Be sure to include your description the types of equipment involved.
