| Seven things every new PERS employer needs to know |
|

|
|
- First and foremost- help is available! Every PERS employer has an individual case manager assigned to them from the PERS Employer Service Center. If you are taking over for someone who did PERS reporting previously or just starting out, take a moment and call your customer service representative and introduce yourself! When you have questions about your account or on EDX you can call your representative at their own direct phone number, or call the general phone number for the Employer Service Center Monday through Friday between 8:30am and 12:30pm. The general phone line is (503) 598-7737 or toll-free at (888) 320-7377 or. In addition to sending an email to your case manager, you can also email the ESC team at their general email box: pers.edx.support@state.or.us
- Know your employer reporting frequency. Every employer selects one of four reporting frequency schedules for their regular reports- Monthly, Semi-Monthly, Bi-Weekly, and Weekly. Which one are you? Your regular report, which contains wage & contribution records, must be created using that report date and released to PERS within 3 business days.
- Become familiar with content of this employer website. Browse through the offerings on the “Employer Training and Education” page, including the interactive tutorials.
- Attend an EDX training session. EDX training occurs at least once a month at our office in Tigard, as well as various times and locations throughout Oregon. EDX training information is available at http://www.oregon.gov/PERS/EMP/section/er_training/schedule.shtml
- Begin reading the PERS Employer manual under “Publications ” on the website. The manual is specifically designed to be a complete “PERS Reporting 101” training in itself, covering basic reporting information, PERS eligibility and waiting time, salary, statements, and other topics.
- Refer to the EDX Users Guide as you begin using EDX. The users guide covers detailed and complete information about EDX records and the fields they contain, as well as data reporting requirements and a troubleshooting guide.
- Attend a regional PERS visit. PERS makes at least annual regional visits to build their relationship with the PERS Employer community. Employers will be notified as to when the PERS team will be coming to their area to give a presentation on current topics and answer questions.
